Here are some things to keep in mind about the potential for rain. If you plan, it can be great!
Consider the Water Parks - If you know there is a high potential for prolonged rain, consider spending that day in one of the water parks. Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach leave little room or desire for keeping dry. So, if you’re going to go – go all the way with a full blown water day.
Pack Ponchos – Yes, they sell them at the parks, but do yourself a favor, head to the Dollar Store before leaving home and buy a few disposable ponchos for $1 each. They pack well in a day bag, are light weight, you can toss them at the end of the day, and they don’t break the bank! Besides, that money needs to be spent on souvenirs, and snacks!
Map Your Day - The neat thing about the parks is that so many attractions are inside. However, the number of “dark” attractions or the distance between them varies by park. For instance, Hollywood Studios has a few “dark” rides, but the distance from the front gate to Star Tours, from there to Muppet Vision 3D, then to Toy Story Mania, back to Great Movie Ride and on to Rockin’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror leaves some distance to travel in the rain. The Magic Kingdom, however, allows an opportunity to walk through shops while you make your way down Main Street, then remain under cover from the Noodle Station all the way to Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor and Buzz Lightyear. Only a few steps are left to the Carrousel of Progress and a few moments more to Space Mountain. That can be half a day under cover.
Disney Quest – 5 floors of every game imaginable. This is the perfect time to enjoy this treat located at Downtown Disney!
Water Rides – Let this be the day you brave Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids.
Shop – I don’t recommend Downtown Disney because you’ll be out in the rain. But, Main Street offers quite a bit to look at. A great time to get souvenirs. However, this won’t take long.
Enjoy the Rain – Seriously. Run, laugh, get wet, and make memories. In fact, much in the same way WDW looks completely different at night, it looks different in the rain. It’s quite neat to be honest. The tropical buildings above the Aloha Isle, the Swiss Family Tree House, Splash Mountain, Cinderella Castle and even Main Street have a real unique look in the rain.
So, don’t let rain threaten your dream vacation, instead let it enhance it. Have fun, it’s still the happiest place on earth!
