Whether it is the memory of your first sighting of Cinderella Castle, or first parade, first fireworks spectacular, first roller-coaster, first birthday, first anniversary, first date, first vacation, or first taste of Mouse-Ears ice cream, WDW offers so much to remember. All the magical things within the parks and resorts only serve to highlight those memories by providing unique backdrops that cannot be duplicated.
This past year alone, my family experienced two other significant firsts in our lives. Sure, we’ve celebrated everyone’s birthday at WDW over the years. But, this year found us celebrating the first birthday of our youngest son. Imagine eating your first birthday cake at Mama Melrose. That is a memory for sure.
Another first was his first haircut, something that is all the more special since it occurred in the Magic Kingdom. We’ve written about the Harmony Barbershop in an earlier post. So, I won’t go into too many details about the shop itself. I will, however, urge you to consider visiting this location to experience this very same first for your own child; and tell you what to expect.
Be aware that there may be a wait. So, get to the barbershop located just across from the Main Street Fire Station, put your name on the list, and simply be patient for a few minutes. When it is your child’s turn, one of the professional barbers will prepare their seat and hand your child one of the many Disney themed toys to hold his or her attention. Likewise, the barber will continue to place your child at ease by earning his or her trust. Doing so may require covering your child with a plethora of Mickey Mouse Stickers.
Once your child is settled, on goes the wrap, and up goes the chair. The barbers are used to first timers, so they don’t mind the hundreds of photos you are bound to take. A snip here, a cut there, a brush and a wipe later and the haircut is over.
Unlike other barbershops, the Harmony Barbershop provides a few other tokens to help you preserve the event for posterity. A grouping of the hair clipped will be placed into a small bag with a Mickey sticker and some Pixie Dust. Perfect for the baby book. The young customer will also receive a set of Mickey Mouse Ears stating “1st Haircut” to help commemorate and proudly announce the event. Lastly, you will receive a certificate noting the date of the special occasion.
For a nominal fee of $14 - $20, this is a first that you shouldn’t pass up if at all possible.
